St. John’s Concerts Presents “Glimpses of Paradise”

St. John’s Concerts will present a choral and organ concert, “Glimpses of Paradise” on Sunday, March 2nd at 4:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 205 Elmwood Avenue, Lynchburg, VA

Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem” in the version for choir, baritone and alto soloists, and organ will be the featured work in the program. Other works in the concert include Jonathan Dove’s

“Ecce Beatam Lucem” (“Behold the holy light”) and James Whitbourn’s “Alleluia Jubilate” (“Alleluia, rejoice”). The choirs include St. John’s Parish Choir, Cantate Children’s and Youth

Choir, and Randolph College Chorale.

Dr. Randall Speer will conduct, and Peggy Haas Howell will play the organ. Dr. Speer is Professor of Music at Randolph College. In addition to serving as Organist and Choirmaster at

St. John’s Episcopal Church and Director of Cantate Children’s and Youth Choir, Ms. Howell is also the National Vice President and Councillor for Competitions and New Music for the

American Guild of Organists.

The concert is in memory of two members of St. John’s Choir, Barbara Betenbaugh and Reginald Puckett. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated and an
